ABSTRACT

This study proposes a novel and simple fabrication method of magnetic microfibers, employing filament stretching three-dimensional (3D) printing, and demonstrates the capacity of four-dimensional (4D) printing of the proposed magnetic microfibers. A ferromagnetic 3D printing filament is prepared by the mixture of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) and polylactic acid (PLA), and we investigate the characteristics of the ferromagnetic filament by mixing ratio, magnetic properties, mechanical properties, and rheological properties through experiments. By thermal extrusion of the ferromagnetic filament through a 3D printer nozzle, various thicknesses (80-500 µm) and lengths (less than ∼5 cm) of ferromagnetic microfibers are achieved with different printing setups, such as filament extrusion amount and printing speed. The printed ferromagnetic microfibers are magnetized to maintain a permanent magnetic dipole moment, and 4D printing can be achieved by the deformations of the permanently magnetized microfibers under magnetic fields. We observe that the mixing ratio, the thickness, and the length of the magnetized microfibers provide distinct deformation of the microfiber for customization of 4D printings. This study exhibits that the permanently magnetized microfibers have a great potential for smart sensors and actuators. Furthermore, we briefly present an application of our proposed magnetic microfibers for bionic motion actuators with various unique undulating and oscillating motions.

ABSTRACT

Tea-oil tree (Camelliaoleifera Abel.) is an important edible oil woody plant with a planting area over 3,800,000 hectares in southern China. Species of Diaporthe inhabit a wide range of plant hosts as plant pathogens, endophytes and saprobes. Here, we conducted an extensive field survey in Hainan Province to identify and characterise Diaporthe species associated with tea-oil leaf spots. As a result, eight isolates of Diaporthe were obtained from symptomatic C.oleifera leaves. These isolates were studied, based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses of partial ITS, cal, his3, tef1 and tub2 gene regions. Two new Diaporthe species (D.hainanensis and D.pseudofoliicola) were proposed and described herein.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: It is the first study to evaluate the predictive value of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) on postoperative delirium (POD) after transforaminal lumber interbody fusion (TLIF) in elderly patients with degenerative lumbar diseases. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted to assess the outcomes of TLIF surgery in elderly patients with lumbar degenerative disease between the years 2016 and 2022. Delirium was diagnosed by reviewing postoperative medical records during hospitalization, utilizing the Confusion Assessment Method. The geriatric nutritional risk index was calculated using the baseline serum albumin level and body weight. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to identify the association between preoperative GNRI and postoperative delirium (POD). Additionally, a receiver operating characteristic curve was utilized to determine the optimal GNRI cutoff for predicting POD. RESULTS: POD was observed in 50 of the 324 patients. The GNRI was visibly reduced in the delirium group. The mean GNRI was 93.0 ± 9.1 in non-delirium group and 101.2 ± 8.2 in delirium group. On multivariate logistic regression, Risk of POD increases significantly with low GNRI and was an independent factor in predicting POD following TLIF (OR 0.714; 95% CI 0.540-0.944; p = 0.018). On receiver operating characteristic curve, the area under curve (AUC) for GNRI was 0.738 (95% CI 0.660-0.817). The cutoff value for GNRI according to the Youden index was 96.370 (sensitivity: 66.0%, specificity: 70.4%). CONCLUSION: Our study indicated that lower GNRI correlated significantly with POD after TLIF. Performing GNRI evaluation prior to TLIF may be an effective approach of predicting the risk for POD among elderly patients with degenerative lumbar diseases.

ABSTRACT

Species of Diaporthe inhabit a wide range of plant hosts as plant pathogens, endophytes and saprobes. During trips to collect forest pathogens in Beijing, Jiangxi, Shaanxi and Zhejiang Provinces in China, 16 isolates of Diaporthe were obtained from branch cankers and leaf spots. These isolates were studied by applying a polyphasic approach including morphological, cultural data, and phylogenetic analyses of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS), calmodulin (cal), histone H3 (his3), partial translation elongation factor-1α (tef-1α) and ß-tubulin (tub2) loci. Results revealed four new taxa, D.celticola, D.meliae, D.quercicola, D.rhodomyrti spp. nov. and two known species, D.eres and D.multiguttulata.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the correlations between the continuously monitored gamma dose rate (GDR) and meteorological parameters, including precipitation, air temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, wind direction, and wind speed, were analyzed by using one year of the hourly dataset from a monitoring system with ten stations. The correlation coefficients are varied by the range of each meteorological parameter. Precipitation would enhance the GDR up to 84%, which is highly related to precipitation intensity and ground type. Strong and positive correlation between the GDR and light precipitation was identified, while the correlation was reduced with increasing of precipitation. Air temperature could cause a fluctuation of the average GDR within the range 1.8-5.3 nGy h-1, and different correlation characteristics were indicated for low and high air temperature. The GDR was positively correlated with relative humidity, though relative humidity is inversely correlated with air temperature. Correlations between the GDR and air pressure were mainly negative. Diurnal variations between the GDR and the air temperature, relative humidity, and air pressure were also analyzed. The wind played an important role also in the fluctuation of the GDR with the GDR difference up to 2.00 nGy h-1 averaged from the sixteen wind-directions. Lower GDR can be found in the direction of prevailing wind because of the dilution effect of the radon progenies in the surface air. In this paper, some exploratory interpretation of physical influence mechanisms of meteorological parameters on the GDR was also presented, which suggests further work should be carried out to explore the variation and correlation principle.
